How to Use Saffron
Saffron is used in very small amounts. The usual method is to soak a pinch of threads in a little warm milk or warm water until the liquid takes on colour, then stir that liquid into the dish.
Saffron Milk
Warm milk, add soaked saffron, and sweeten only as you prefer. Serve warm as a simple, comforting drink.
Biryani and Pulao
Stir soaked saffron into rice dishes near the end of cooking or layer it through the rice so the colour spreads evenly.
Desserts and Mithai
Use soaked saffron in milk-based desserts and sweets where its colour and aroma can be enjoyed without overpowering other flavours.
Special Occasions
Because a little goes a long way, saffron is often kept for festive cooking, family gatherings and dishes made to share.
Store saffron in a cool, dry place away from light, and use a dry spoon. This page is a general guide; adjust amounts to taste.
